How to play
Dictionary Bluff is for 3–12 active players. A match contains exactly six rounds using six different cards from the first-party editorial set.
At the start of a round every active player sees the rare word and a short language note, while its verified definition, accepted aliases, and fallback bluffs remain server-side until the reveal.
Each active player has 55 seconds to submit one plausible false definition containing 8–100 Unicode characters. Once accepted, that definition cannot be replaced during the round.
A definition must contain meaningful text. URLs, email addresses, contact handles, long telephone numbers, markup, control characters, and invisible characters are rejected by the server and never become game content.
Comparison ignores case, spacing, and punctuation. Russian Е and Ё compare equally; Spanish accents compare with their base vowels, while N and Ñ remain distinct letters.
If an entry matches the verified truth or an accepted alias after normalization, the server accepts it without a hint, omits it from the ballot, awards its writer 1000 points at reveal, and does not let that player vote.
When several players independently submit the same normalized false definition, the whole matching group is omitted symmetrically. Network speed never decides which copy survives, and every writer in that group scores 0.
Missing the writing deadline fabricates nothing in the player's name and scores 0. Everyone else sees only the ready count during writing, and a player who skipped may still vote unless they matched the truth.
The ballot contains the single verified truth, every unique eligible player bluff, and the first suitable first-party fallback bluffs until it has at least 4 distinct cards. The server shuffles them behind opaque identifiers.
Voting lasts 40 seconds. Each eligible active player chooses exactly one card; the writer of a unique bluff cannot choose their own option, while observers and players who already knew the truth do not vote.
A vote for the verified truth gives the voter 1000 points. A unique bluff gives its writer 500 points for every player it fools; editorial fallbacks, wrong votes, missed actions, and matching bluffs score 0.
The 20-second reveal shows the word, verified truth, every option, writers, votes, matching groups, and exact awards. The host may continue after 6 seconds; reconnecting players recover their state, while late joiners see no word, ballot, or private entry before reveal.
After round six, the highest match total wins. Equal highest totals create a shared victory with no tie-break, and scores exist only inside the current match.
