How to play

  1. Light Between Numbers is a one-team game for 3–12 Calibrators. A match in this mode has exactly five rounds. There are no personal points or individual winner.

  2. Every round begins with a numerical question. The app shows the unit, minimum and maximum whole number, and scale type. Linear steps are equal; on a logarithmic scale, equal distances represent equal multiplication.

  3. The chart is shown for 15 seconds and the host may continue after 6. Players then have 45 seconds to enter exactly one private whole number inside the scale. A probe locks once. If everyone is ready, the stage ends no sooner than 8 seconds; a timeout never fills in an answer.

  4. The server maps accepted probes to positions from 0 to 1 and lights the beacon at their median. With an even count it averages the two central positions; with none it uses the middle of the scale. Other players’ values, order, and authorship are never published. The first shared beam covers 30% of the scale.

  5. The first beam remains on screen for 20 seconds and the host may open calibration after 8. The team then gets 60 seconds plus 3 seconds for each player beyond three, capped at 90. Discussion is optional because every decision is available in the app.

  6. For calibration, every player privately chooses a direction—far lower, lower, hold, higher, or far higher, equal to −20%, −10%, 0, +10%, or +20% of the scale—and a width: focused 18%, balanced 30%, or wide 44%. Both choices are sent together and cannot change after acceptance.

  7. The final shift is the median direction; with an even count it averages the two central values. Width uses the upper median, so an exact split resolves toward the wider, safer beam. Submission order and randomness never decide. With no choices, the fallback is no shift and balanced width.

  8. Scoring requires probes and calibration choices from at least half of all active players, rounded up. When the correct value lies inside the closed beam, focused scores 600, balanced 400, and wide 250. A miss within 3% of the normalised scale from the nearest edge scores 100; anything farther scores 0. A missing quorum always scores 0.

  9. The reveal lasts 18 seconds and the host may continue after 6. It shows the correct value, original explanation, final beam, aggregate direction and width counts only, quorum, round award, and team total. Other players’ raw probes, names, private choices, and timestamps are never revealed; aggregates may still support guesses in a small room.

  10. You may discuss locally or in an external audio or video call. play2gether.fun does not request camera, microphone, or location access and does not record audio or video. A participant reconnecting under the same identity receives only their own accepted receipts. Anyone joining after the start observes until the next match and never receives an action token for the current one. Points are not money and cannot be bought, transferred, traded, or redeemed.
