How to play

  1. Explain the Opposite is for 3–12 players. With 3–5 participants everyone performs exactly twice; with 6–12 everyone performs exactly once, and the circular rotation never repeats a performer before the whole group has served.

  2. Every round uses a fresh target from 72 original cards across six everyday themes, with no repeats inside a match. Everyone sees the category, while only the Performer receives the target, accepted aliases, four forbidden words, and three reverse cues before the reveal.

  3. Preparation lasts 20 seconds. The Performer reads the secret and plans a spoken explanation; after 3 seconds only the Performer may start guessing, while expiry starts that stage automatically.

  4. The Performer describes the target only through deliberately opposite traits, uses, or circumstances: something cold may become hot, something fast may become slow, and an object made for order may create a mess. The three reverse cues are examples, not required wording.

  5. Do not say the target, an accepted alias, any of the four forbidden words, an obvious derivative, translation, rhyme, initial letters, or letter count; do not write the answer, share it on screen, or shape its letters with gestures. A breach ends the round as a foul.

  6. Guessing lasts 70 seconds. Every active player except the Performer may submit up to 8 distinct guesses of 1–60 characters; comparison is case-insensitive, and a duplicate after normalization does not consume another attempt.

  7. A matching guess does not score automatically: only the Performer may accept it and settle whether an ordinary disputed synonym counts. Every active player sees the shared attempt feed, while observers receive only the aggregate count without guess text or author identities.

  8. Only the Performer may pass a target that is too difficult or record their own foul, while expiry of the 70 seconds records a timeout automatically. Pass, foul, and timeout always score 0; the app never carries points between matches.

  9. Play in the same place or use an external audio or video call: play2gether.fun does not request camera or microphone access and does not record the conversation.

  10. A reconnecting player recovers their role, remaining time, and already submitted attempts. Anyone joining after the match begins remains a spectator: they see the public stage, timer, category, and scores, but receive no secret and cannot submit guesses.

  11. Only an accepted outcome awards 200 points to the author of the confirmed guess and 100 points to the Performer. A pass, foul, timeout, and every unconfirmed guess award both sides 0; the server applies an award exactly once.

  12. The 20-second reveal shows the target, accepted aliases, four forbidden words, reverse cues, outcome, and award. The host may open the next round after 6 seconds; the control remains locked before then so everyone can check the result.

  13. After the full rotation—two performances each with 3–5 players or one with 6–12—the highest total wins. Equal highest totals produce a shared victory, with no random tie-break.
