How to play
Good Turn, Bad Turn is for 3–12 players. Everyone builds one story together: the app supplies a good beginning, and the shared target is 2 × N accepted player twists for N starting participants. This sets the story length, not an individual writing quota.
Before play, the server randomizes and locks a circular turn order and selects one of 48 original promising situations. It becomes the first positive event, is visible to the whole room, and does not count as any player’s turn.
The first player-written turn is always a negative complication. Directions then alternate after every accepted line: a bad turn creates a new problem, while a good turn helps the characters or improves their situation.
On your turn, continue the visible chain with one line of 1–200 Unicode code points after NFKC normalization. Spaces and line breaks collapse; control, invisible, and private-use characters and entries made only of punctuation or emoji are rejected.
The server assigns the required polarity and stamps it on the accepted line; a client cannot choose its own sign. The app checks format, turn order, and repeats, but not meaning, humor, facts, or whether the line fits its direction—the group makes that judgment.
An accepted twist appears immediately in the shared feed with its author and then cannot be edited, deleted, or reordered. The turn passes to the next participant in the locked circle.
Each turn lasts up to 120 seconds, and the active player may skip sooner. A skip or timeout creates no blank line, does not change the required polarity, and never lowers the 2 × N target; anyone joining after the start observes until the next match.
The match ends as soon as twist 2 × N is accepted. Because the opening was positive, the final player line is positive too; the story belongs to the whole group, with no winner, personal ranking, or point award, and room scores remain unchanged.
